Ignorance about Israel and moral confusion about terrorism were on full display at the North Carolina Democratic SEC meeting 6/28/25. A resolution regarding an arms embargo against Israel was so outrageous that even the NC Dems pulled it. It included lies and blood libel against Israel/Jews, falsely accusing the Jewish state of apartheid, genocide and more.
When did the word "Palestine" creep into the American lexicon? Up until ten years ago the word was not often heard. Why is it so common now? Why do people speak of a war between "Israel and Palestine" when the latter doesn't even exist?
The word "Palestine" has been repeated so often that most people believe that such a place exists. It does not. While there was once a Palestine Mandate, and Jews were called Palestinians, the mandate ceased to exist when Israel became a state in 1948. So, if there is no longer a Palestine, why do we hear the word so often?
While Israel's enemies would like us to remain silent, some brave students chose not to comply. They posted 1200 flags, each representing a victim from that terrible day. They stood proudly with Israel, educating other students and passersby about the attacks on Israel and the hostages taken by Hamas. They stayed positive. NCCI applauds their courage. They inspire us all.
From synagogues hosting antisemites, to college campuses running a variety of Jew hatred programs such as “Israel Apartheid Week,” to public protests where we literally took a punch for Israel, to city councils where attempts were made to codify antisemitism, NCCI was there in 2023, educating, protesting, and advocating for Israel and the Jewish people.

University of North Carolina (UNC) Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz repeatedly placates the Jewish community, as when he claimed to be "heartbroken and deeply offended" by the antisemitic, anti-Israel, Gaza conference hosted by UNC, for example. Even when the Department of Education became involved, no meaningful action was taken by UNC. Guskiewicz continues to spout empty words, although this may become moot since his departure to Michigan State University seems imminent.
On Friday, November 17, we witnessed pro-Hamas UNC students gathering at the Wilson Library, chanting slogans and waving signs condemning Israel for defending itself in a war started in a barbaric, surprise assault by Hamas that included beheading children, gang rapes, burning people alive, and taking hostages ranging in age from infants to elders.
You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Yes, it’s insanity.
