NCCI was heartened to learn that Democrats concerned about three antisemitic resolutions would be forming a new North Carolina Jewish Democrats (NCJD) caucus. We thought the cavalry was coming to protect Jews from antisemitism in the party. We were wrong.
Ghettoization and Other Antisemitic Tropes
To provide background, in June, 2022, the North Carolina Democratic Party published three antisemitic resolutions, two of which were adopted. Israel was falsely accused of harming Muslim Palestinian communities by expropriation and “ghettoization” of land, and more. The claims are heinous and unfounded.
The vile, incendiary resolutions echoed the conspiracy theory embraced by Jew-haters that Jews maintain a powerful global cabal to dominate and abuse others. Democrats in North Carolina portrayed Jews as sinister, evil, and greedy; the age-old antisemitic tropes used to incite Jew-hatred for centuries.
Fighting Antisemitism not a Priority?
Sadly, we learned that the primary goal of the NCJD would be to turn North Carolina “blue.” Among the listed goals, fighting antisemitism in the party did not even make the list.
The “Jewish Democratic” caucus appears to be simply a mechanism for promoting the Democratic Party. Note that the only two requirements for membership in the new NCJD caucus include being:
- “a registered NC Democrat and
- support for a Jewish state of Israel alongside a future negotiated state of Palestine in accordance with the Democratic National Party Platform.”
Support for a Jewish state cannot be conditional on there being a “state of Palestine.” Such an entity could well be a terrorist state at some point.
A Fool’s Errand – NCCI members who reached out to their respective NC Representatives to express concern about the antisemitic resolutions were referred to the NCJD caucus. Since the caucus shows little interest in protecting the Jewish community, this is a fool’s errand.
