We hope you have heard the good news! On November 19th, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo publicly declared “We will regard the global, anti-Israel BDS campaign as anti-Semitic,” referring to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
“We will immediately take steps to identify organizations that engage in hateful BDS conduct and withdraw U.S. government support for such groups,” he said, adding that all nations should “…recognize the BDS movement for the cancer that it is.” It is not yet clear which organizations will be affected by the administration’s move.
Already there are 32 states with anti-BDS laws. While the Senate came out with an anti-BDS bill in January 2019, and the US House of Representatives passed House Resolution 246 against BDS in July 2019, Pompeo’s statement is the first clear declaration by a high government official that BDS is rooted in antisemitism (Jew Hatred).
We understand that future administrations may overturn anti-BDS measures, but Pompeo’s declaration that Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) is antisemitic is still very welcome. We hope that ongoing education regarding the bigotry of the BDS movement will put a halt to its malicious, hate-filled propaganda against Jews, i.e. Israel.
